Quicker Than Takeout Steak Tacos

These tacos are juicy, butter-basted steak tacos layered with fresh salsa verde, creamy avocado, and bold flavors that crush weeknight dinner without breaking a sweat. 🌮🔥

🌶️ What You’ll Need

2 serrano chilies, cut in ½
½ lb (226g) tomatillos, cut in quarters
Juice of 1 lime
½ a bunch of cilantro, plus more for garnish 
1 large sweet onion, peeled and quartered plus more fine diced, divided 
1.75 lb NY Strip Steak (at least 1” thick)
½ cup (113g) unsalted butter for basting
4 cloves of raw garlic
1 cinnamon stick for basting
1 bunch of fresh oregano for basting
White corn tortillas
1 avocado, sliced
Kosher salt and pepper to taste

🔥 How To Make The Magic

🥑🔥 Salsa Verde

1️⃣ Toss serrano chiles, tomatillos, lime juice, ½ bunch cilantro, and ½ sweet onion into a blender.
2️⃣ Blend until silky smooth. Season with salt + pepper.
3️⃣ Finely dice the remaining ½ sweet onion and set aside for topping.

🥩🔥 Steak Game

4️⃣ Season your steak heavily with salt & pepper — no fear, fam.
5️⃣ Heat a 12” skillet over medium-high with just enough oil to coat the pan.
6️⃣ Sear steak until deeply golden and caramelized, 2–3 minutes per side.
7️⃣ Flip, lower heat to medium, and add butter, garlic, cinnamon stick, and oregano.
8️⃣ Tilt the pan and baste like a boss until butter browns and steak hits medium-rare.
9️⃣ Transfer to a rack and let rest 10–15 minutes (don’t rush greatness).
🔟 Slice against the grain, about ½” thick.

1️⃣1️⃣ Warm tortillas in a skillet until soft and steamy.
1️⃣2️⃣ Load up with sliced steak, avocado, cilantro, and diced onion.
